Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck discusses claims that some artistes use voodoo to secure hit songs.

Odumodublvck Says Some Nigerian Artistes Use Voodoo for Hit Songs

Odumodublvck Claims Some Nigerian Musicians Turn to Voodoo for Hit Songs

Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has alleged that some artistes in the country resort to voodoo in their quest to produce hit songs.

The rapper made the claim during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he discussed the challenges of achieving commercial success in Nigeria’s competitive music industry.

Odumodublvck said producing a hit song was difficult, noting that some musicians could spend their entire careers without recording one.

He suggested that the pressure to achieve commercial success pushes some artistes to seek spiritual assistance.

“Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artists crashing out when they struggle to get a hit,” he said.

His comments have generated attention because they touch on a recurring subject in Nigeria’s entertainment industry: allegations that some musicians use spiritual practices to influence their careers. However, the rapper did not identify anyone allegedly involved in such practices or provide evidence to support the claim.

Odumodublvck Praises Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido

While discussing the difficulty of producing hit records, Odumodublvck singled out Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido for their consistency.

He said the three music stars had continued to release commercially successful songs over several years.

“Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido have been dropping hit songs consistently for years.

“You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers,” he added.

The rapper’s comments highlighted the difference between achieving a breakthrough record and sustaining commercial success.

A song can attract widespread attention, but maintaining that momentum requires consistent releases and continued audience interest.

Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido have built substantial international audiences through music releases, collaborations and performances. Their success has also helped expand Afrobeats’ reach beyond Nigeria.

Hit Songs Remain Difficult to Achieve

Odumodublvck’s remarks also draw attention to the commercial pressures facing Nigerian musicians.

The industry has become increasingly competitive, with streaming platforms, social media and digital distribution giving artistes more opportunities to release music.

However, wider access to distribution does not guarantee audience attention or commercial success.

Musicians compete for streams, playlist placements, radio airplay, live performances and online visibility. These factors can influence their earnings and ability to maintain public interest.

A 2024 report by The Guardian highlighted the financial challenges facing emerging Nigerian musicians. It noted that recording, promotion, music videos and access to industry support could make it difficult for new artistes to break through.

The growth of Afrobeats has created opportunities for Nigerian performers. However, competition for recognition remains intense.

Rapper Does Not Name Any Artiste

Despite making the allegation, Odumodublvck did not mention any musician he believed had used voodoo to secure a hit song.

He also did not present evidence linking any particular artiste to the practice.

His statement therefore remains a general allegation rather than an established account of misconduct by identifiable musicians.

The comments have nevertheless renewed discussions about the pressures associated with fame and commercial success in the Nigerian music industry.

Odumodublvck, whose real name is Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, is known for his distinctive rap style and outspoken public comments.

His latest remarks place the spotlight on the difficult business of producing hit records and sustaining a successful music career.

For now, his comments have not established that any named Nigerian musician uses voodoo to influence the success of their songs.
