The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its national campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party named Senator Henry Seriake Dickson as chairman, Peter Obi as co-chairman and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as co-vice-chairman.
The appointments place the party’s leading figures at the centre of its election campaign. The council will coordinate campaign activities, mobilise supporters and communicate the party’s agenda to Nigerians.
The NDC announced the appointments on Sunday, October 25, 2026. It also outlined the responsibilities of officials who will manage its campaign operations nationwide.
The party said the council would provide strategic direction and promote a people-centred, issue-based campaign.
Dickson, Obi and Kwankwaso Take Key Campaign Positions
The NDC has appointed Dickson, a former Bayelsa State governor, as chairman of its National Campaign Council.
Peter Obi will serve as co-chairman, while Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will take the position of co-vice-chairman.
The party also named its national chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, as vice-chairman of the council.
National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu will serve as council secretary. Meanwhile, Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim will oversee the presidential campaign as director-general.
These appointments establish the leadership structure for the party’s campaign. The officials will coordinate campaign planning, manage mobilisation efforts and organise activities across the country.
The council will also help the party communicate its political agenda and engage voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
NDC Sets Up Advisory Council and State Campaign Teams
The NDC has also established a National Campaign Advisory Council to support its campaign leadership.
The party announced a 40-member advisory council and appointed 37 state campaign coordinators. These appointments will help extend its campaign activities beyond the national level.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, is among the members of the advisory council.
Other prominent figures include Senator Victor Umeh, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege and Buba Galadima.
The list also includes Sidi Bomi Abdul, Babatunde Alli, Yakubu Ochefu, Mahmud Gambo Jahun, Moshood Salvador, Dudu Manuga, Victor Ogene and Muktar Usman.
The state coordinators will organise local campaign activities and mobilise supporters. They will also help the party maintain consistent messaging across different states.
Meanwhile, the advisory council will provide guidance as the NDC develops its campaign strategy and prepares for the elections.
NDC Appoints Communications and Security Directors
The party has also named officials to oversee key operational areas of its campaign.
Osa Director, the NDC’s national publicity secretary, will serve as director of communication and media. He will oversee campaign messaging and coordinate the party’s engagement with the press.
The NDC also appointed retired Major General John Enenche as director of security and intelligence. Enenche previously served as a military spokesperson.
These appointments will help the party coordinate media relations, security planning and other campaign operations.
The communications team will need to explain the party’s policies clearly and respond to public questions. The security team will support the safe coordination of campaign events across the country.
Both roles will contribute to the council’s wider responsibilities as the election approaches.
NDC Promises a People-Centred Campaign
The NDC says its campaign council will coordinate nationwide activities and promote its vision of building a “new, just, and prosperous Nigeria”.
The party has also urged members and supporters to remain united as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
Its emphasis on a people-centred campaign suggests that the party wants to focus on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
However, the announcement mainly addressed appointments and administrative responsibilities. It did not provide detailed policy proposals on major national challenges.
Voters will likely want to hear the party’s plans for tackling unemployment, inflation, insecurity and poor infrastructure. Its proposals for economic growth and improved public services will also shape public debate.
The campaign council will play an important role in communicating the party’s agenda. It will also coordinate public engagement and help explain its policy priorities to voters.
2027 Elections: NDC Strengthens Its Campaign Structure
The unveiling of the NDC campaign council comes as political parties prepare for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The appointments give the party a formal structure for coordinating campaign activities at national and state levels.
The next task will be to turn that structure into an effective campaign. The party will need to organise its teams, mobilise supporters and communicate clear policy proposals.
The council’s effectiveness will depend on how well its members work together. Strong coordination between national leaders and state officials will also matter.
Dickson, Obi and Kwankwaso now occupy prominent positions within the campaign leadership announced by the party.
As preparations continue, attention will turn to the council’s activities, the party’s policy proposals and its engagement with voters.
The formation of the campaign council marks an organisational step for the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections. Its progress will depend on how effectively it carries out its responsibilities and presents its agenda to Nigerians.
